Rajkot Fire: Gujarat Police Arrest Another TRP Gaming Zone Partner; Owner Laughs in Court



Rajkot, Gujarat – In a significant development following the tragic fire at the Rajkot-based TRP Gaming Zone, Gujarat police have apprehended another accomplice involved in the incident that claimed 27 lives last week.

Arrest Details

On May 28, Dhaval Thakkar, one of the principal owners of the TRP Gaming Zone, was arrested in Abu Road, Rajasthan. This was confirmed by Banaskantha Superintendent of Police Akshayraj Makwana. Thakkar, associated with Dhaval Enterprise, operated the gaming zone alongside five partners from Raceway Ventures.

Suspects and Charges

Thakkar, who had been on the run since the fire, is the latest in a series of arrests. Previously, Yuvrajsinh Solanki and Rahul Rathod, partners in Raceway Ventures, and Nitin Jain, the gaming zone manager, were taken into custody. All four suspects have been remanded in 14-day police custody by a Rajkot court as of May 27.

The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against six individuals, including Thakkar, Solanki, Rathod, and other Raceway Ventures partners Ashoksinh Jadeja, Kiritsinh Jadeja, and Prakashchand Hiran. They are facing multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code, including:

  • Section 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder)
  • Section 308 (Attempt to commit culpable homicide)
  • Section 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety)
  • Section 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety)
  • Section 114 (Abetment of the offense)

Court Proceedings

During court proceedings, the behavior of the accused drew significant attention. Special public prosecutor Tushar Gokani reported that Yuvrajsinh Solanki initially appeared remorseful but soon began laughing and engaging in arguments with court staff. This contradictory behavior was noted during questioning and document submission, prompting the request for extended police custody.



Government and Police Response

In response to the fire and the ensuing investigation, the Gujarat government has taken several administrative actions:

  • The city police chief and two other IPS officers have been transferred.
  • Rajkot Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava has been replaced by Brijesh Kumar Jha, a 1999 batch IPS officer.
  • Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration, Traffic, and Crime) Vidhi Choudhary and DCP-Zone 2 Sudhirkumar J Desai have also been reassigned to Rajkot City.

An Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to probe the incident thoroughly.

Compensation Announcements

The Gujarat government has announced an ex gratia payment of ₹4 lakh to the families of each deceased victim. Additionally, the central government has promised an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person.
